Palm Jumeirah Mosque

The 6,504 square-meter property is located in a prominent plot in Jumeirah Island in Dubai. Positioned at the base of the Palm Jumeirah trunk marking an important entrance into the iconic man-made island, the design required a landmark structure that is visible and symbolic. Inspired by the geometry of traditional mashrabiya, the mosque design evolves from a 2-dimensional pattern to a 3-dimension volume.

The simple pattern when projected creates an interesting form that is unique and organic. The pointed arches which represent traditional Islamic architecture are dominant from the base and carried over to the bulbous dome to become a prominent landmark. By projecting the curved arches in two tiers, the prominent dome achieves a regal bearing. The slender towering minaret provides a counter balance to the built mass.
